Stomach Scope

Updated: Feb 17, 2022

(Also posted to FB. I meant to post this last night but got sidetracked.)

Tyler (dad) came to visit today for several hours. He's off for Christmas, so he was here when they did Emma's scope.

They said the procedure went smoothly and that, when it comes to what is causing the problem, they didn't see any clear smoking gun. They took several biopsies and hope that'll give them some answers. We'll have those back sometime next week.

He also said the opening at the bottom of her stomach, that goes to her intestines (pylorus is written on the photo), he said it was small/swollen at 13mm. He used a balloon to dilate it to about 18mm. I don't know enough to really know what that means, but it seems like 18mm is a good thing.

(Photo is right before they took her for the scope. She was super loopy. haha.)

She has since woken up, had one of the liquid meal drinks, and says she's still feeling full too fast, which really sucks. That's the biggest issue right now, when it comes to getting her back home, trying to figure out how to help her eat/drink enough. She has an appetite and feels like she's starving all the time. She can only eat very small amounts. Not enough to sustain her (she's been losing weight). She'll be trying solids soon, so we'll see how it goes.

C H R I S T M A S D A Y We've been a bit worried about Christmas and how this is going to work out. For a bit we were hopeful we'd be home in time. Now it looks pretty certain that we'll still be here.

We were going to ask if we could get permission to have the rest of our kids come by (they've been restricted so far), buuuut, instead, child life came to us first and said that all siblings are welcome to come and visit (for four hours max) on Christmas Day! It's the first time they're allowing this since Covid.

So, I'll swap with Tyler for a little bit, between now and then, to finish prepping for Christmas. Then we'll be bringing in all the kids, gifts, stockings, and maybe see if we can bring a miniature Christmas tree in, too, and open presents together here in her hospital room. I'm so glad! Maybe it's not the Christmas location we want, but I'm really glad we can do it together.
