Quick Update

Updated: Jan 31, 2023

I'll write a more detailed update later, but to answer texts & emails, we are still in the hospital. We thought we might go home last Friday or Saturday, but they ended up keeping her because she wasn't able to increase her feeds/fluids as needed.

I ended up going home Saturday night/Sunday day to see the other kids, which was really nice (more to come about that), while Tyler spent that time with Emma.

Last night, and today, they've been working on cleaning Emma out completely to prepare her for the studies. She ended up feeling really sick and vomiting last night, but today, they were able to prevent that from happening. She was also transferred from hem/onc to GI's floor this afternoon. (Hem/onc said they're still over everything, but we need to be here for now.)

These are the studies, I believe, that they are going to be doing:

  • esophageal motility study

  • antroduodenal manometry

  • colonic motility study

  • anorectal manometry

They basically measure the frequency and strength of the muscles in there. They are checking her esophagus, stomach, small bowels, large bowels, and a little more. It'll help give an idea of how much works normally and how much doesn't. They'll sedate her and place two special catheters, throughout everywhere, that will monitor things. I still don't know all the details, other than she's currently on a clear liquid diet, will be NPO at midnight, and her procedure will start at 7:30am.

Also, thanks for being the awesome people you are. We really appreciate your love & support. ❤️
